Dr. Carl Barfield
Professor, Department of Entomology and Nematology.
Dr. Carl Barfield is the Undergraduate Coordinator and a Professor in the Department of Entomology and Nematology. Over the past year alone, Dr. Barfield has probably spent more time in our residence halls talking with students than any other faculty member on campus (with the exception of the faculty member in-residence, of course).
He has conducted programs for new fall freshmen and summer B freshmen in several residence areas this year, challenging these new students to get involved on campus, to be passionate about their chosen fields of study, to seek out faculty members, to study harder, to be better time managers, and to make the most of their time in college. Dr. Barfield has also been an active member of Housing and Residence Education’s bi-semester Picnic Table Advising program where faculty advisers from various colleges come into the residence areas and advise students where they live just prior to course registration. He has also supported the Dean of Students’ Office and New Student programs as a preview advisor and First Year Florida Instructor.

Kim Tanzer
Professor (Architecture), College of Design Construction and Planning.
Professor Kim Tanzer is a professor of Architecture in the College of Design Construction and Planning. Her research and teaching focus on shared environments such as neighborhoods and cities, where she focuses on cultural contributions to urbanism and issues of social justice. She personifies the distinguished academic who is committed to all students. For the past year, Professor Tanzer has been president of the Faculty Senate. In that capacity, she also served on the University of Florida Board of Trustees. She has worked cooperatively with the Division of Student Affairs to create new systems for student representation and participation on campus committees. In the past year, Professor Tanzer has consistently raised concern for the student body in discussions on academic policy and decision making. When President Machen asked for faculty input into the University Strategic Work Plan, Professor Tanzer ensured that the student perspective was included as well. Her devotion to students makes her a most deserving recipient of the Mort Wolfson Award.
