2008 winners of the Art Sandeen Outstanding New Professional Award : Thomas Germain and Jean Starobin.
- Thomas Germain
Thomas Germain is the current Residence Director for the Diamond-Tanglewood areas in Graduate and Family Housing. Thomas is dedicated to the housing profession and makes it a priority to communicate regularly with his residents, informing them of projects which will affect their home lives. He is also aware of his resident’s concerns and consistently available, handling events at the scene. Thomas likes to challenge himself and has taken on many large scale projects, including the recent Graduate and Family Housing Sustainability Week where he worked closely with the mayor’s council to plan a comprehensive week of educational programs. One of the highlights of the week’s activity was a successful lights out program, where residents were encouraged to turn off their lights, go outside and fellowship with their neighbors. Thomas is passionate about his job, GFH residents and the profession. He is a team player, ready to assist in any way, with training, programs, resident concerns and much more. -
Jean Starobin
Jean Starobin joined the staff of the Reitz Union in July 2007 as the Associate Director for Administrative Services. Jeannie’s Reitz Union responsibilities include Human Resources functions, staff development, marketing, assessment, and information technology. Jeannie quickly learned and adopted the student affairs vision, values, and goals related to student development. Jeannie has planned and implemented several staff development activities for the diverse staff of the Reitz Union which have resulted in increased staff morale, improved communication throughout the organization, and a higher level of engagement by staff. Additionally, Jeannie has been very active in division-wide committees; representing the Reitz Union on both the SEED Committee and the Assessment Committee. She is an active participant in planning professional development for the division, she hosted the Game Night for the Division in April 2008, and she helped develop the assessment plan which is currently underway for the division. Jeannie always has a positive attitude and great ideas in all that she does, and has invited colleagues from across the division to participate in professional development activities she organizes for the Reitz Union.

Leslie Hahn
Leslie Hahn joined the Dean of Students Office staff as the Assistant Director for New Student Programs in June of 2006. After graduating from the College of Wooster and working full-time as a Student Life Counselor for the Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics and Humanities, Leslie continued her education and received her MS in College Student Personnel from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Her experiences in first-year programming and admissions have been a springboard for the new initiatives that have come to fruition during her short time at UF. Leslie has been instrumental in spearheading the Common Reading Program and working with the Florida Opportunity Scholars mentoring. Colleagues across campus recognize her as an asset to the institution and appreciate the energy and enthusiasm she brings to her work. She is committed to creatively contributing to existing programs and aiding in the development of many more new initiatives.

Anthony Crenshaw
Assistant Director of Sorority and Fraternity Affairs
Anthony Crenshaw is the Assistant Director of Sorority and Fraternity Affairs. He advises the Panhellenic and National Pan-Hellenic Councils. He revamped the curriculum for the annual chapter presidents’ retreat as well as the Panhellenic Recruitment Counselors Class, developed the office’s website, and co-authored the office’s three-year strategic plan. Crenshaw is a team player throughout the Division. He serves as a First Year Florida instructor, presents at student leadership conferences, and participates in a variety of cultural and service programs. Students and colleagues are drawn to him for his sincerity, compassion, collaborative spirit, and dedication to students’ learning, growth, and development. He is a role model for staff and students and actively promotes the Division of Student Affairs’ values in all his endeavors.

Shari Robinson
Clinical Assistant Professor at the UF Counseling Center
Dr. Shari Robinson is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the UF Counseling Center. In addition to providing counseling services to students, Dr. Robinson coordinates the Counseling Center Diversity Lunch Series and provides leadership to the A.S.P.I.R.E. team. She has connected with PAACT, Black Greek associations, and other Black student organizations, working with those groups on academic success programs. Dr. Robinson has a strong interest in outreach/consultation, spiritual issues and self-hypnosis. She is involved in the Association of Black Faculty and Staff and has been a member of Focus on Leadership. She is a strong and warm presence on campus, attracting students as mentees, individual clients, and members for the Invincible Black Womens Group and Math Confidence Group.
