The Board of Managers is one of two University-wide standing committees chaired by a student, with a voting student majority. This presidentially appointed committee is comprised of eight voting student members, four alternate student members, and six faculty members. The appointment term for student members is one year, beginning in August of each year. Faculty members serve a three year term. The Board of Managers oversees policy changes and budget administration for all of the Reitz Union's services and programs. The Board also allocates student organization office space in the Student Activities Center on the third floor of the Reitz Union.
There are five subcommittees of the Board:
- Marketing & Finance Committee: Oversees the operating budget and revenue producing areas of the Reitz Union. Each year this committee reviews the rate structures of the Game Room, Hotel, and Event Services Office (for charges for meeting space), and assists the Director in developing the Union's annual funding request to Student Government.
- Long Range Planning Committee: Responsible for anticipating future needs and changes that will affect the Reitz Union. Develops long-range plans for enhancements and renovations to building facilities.
- Policy Committee: Responsible for reviewing all Reitz Union policies and procedures. The committee annually reviews the Reitz Union Policy Manual and recommends any changes to the Board. The Vice Chair of the Board (elected at the first yearly Board meeting) serves as Chair of this subcommittee.
- Food Services: The Food Service Committee reviews the various food vendors and services in the facility and makes recommendations to the board.
- Space Committee: Oversees the allocation of student organization space in the Student Activities Center. The committee monitors office usage by student groups in the Activities Center and participates in extensive hearings during the application-for-space process. Committee members are also closely involved with the other subcommittees on issues affecting changes in use of space within the Reitz Union building.
Applications for the Board of Managers are available each March at the Reitz Union Information Desk, Student Activities Center (3rd Floor JWRU), and at Student Services Information Desk. Notices regarding applications are published in the Independent Florida Alligator and University Digest. A Selection Committee, composed of three students and two faculty members interviews applicants and recommends sixteen names to the Student Body President. The Student Body President selects the twelve student Board members and forwards his/her recommendations to the President of the University through the Vice President for Student Affairs.
