David Bowles has been the Executive Director for Recreation & Health Promotion Services at the University of Florida since 2003. He has worked in Recreational Sports at UF since 1989 during which time he opened the Student Recreation and Fitness Center, the Southwest Recreation Center, and oversaw two major building expansions.

Previously he worked as the Sports Coordinator and then Assistant Athletic Director at the Naval Air Station-Jacksonville, Florida. He graduated from Virginia Tech with a B.S.Ed. in Physical Education and a M.S.Ed. in Sport Management.  Mr. Bowles worked as a Sector Coordinator at the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996 and Salt Lake City in 2002. In Atlanta he worked at the Wolf Creek Shooting Complex; in Salt Lake City he worked at the Olympic Medals Plaza. In 2006, Mr. Bowles served as a consultant for a value engineering firm reviewing design documents for a $130 million project to build fields on 500 acres on Randall’s Island for the City of New York.

He has been active in the National Intramural Recreational Sports Association serving on the Board of Directors as the Vice President representing Region II and the State Director for Florida; chairing and serving on numerous committees; and presenting at state, regional and national conferences.

Mr. Bowles and his wife Susan live in Gainesville where he has been active in the community serving as a PTA President; chaired the Staff Parrish Relations Committee and served on the Wellness Ministry at his church; and coached many youth sports teams.
